Roma Queensland is an Queensland Outback town in the Maranoa Region of Queensland Australia and is about 480km or a 5-and-a-half-hour drive from Brisbane.
Roma Queensland was incorporated in 1867 and is named after Lady Diamantina Bowen (née di Roma), the wife of Sir George Bowen, the Governor of Queensland at the time. At the 2016 census, Roma had a population of 6,848.

Roma Queensland History

Prior the European settlement the Aboriginal peoples of the Mandandanji Nation occupied this region.
In 1863 Samuel Symons Bassett brought Queensland's vine cuttings to Roma Queensland and established the Romavilla Winery in 1866 on Bungil Creek north of Roma Queensland. Sadly, Romavilla Winery closed it doors in 2012 after almost 150 years.
In 1864 Reverend Adam McIntyre of the Free Church of Scotland commenced services at pastoral stations with the intention that he would be established as a permanent minister in Roma Queensland. Reverend Adam McIntyre died on 22 May 1866 so his intentions did not last long.
In the early days of Roma Queensland cattle rustling was a bit of a problem however in 1873 Captain Starlight was acquitted of cattle rustling and no successful conviction for cattle rustling has been made in Roma Queensland.
